amending title 13, chapter 29, Arizona Revised Statutes, by adding section 13-2931; relating to offenses against public order.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:
Section 1. Title 13, chapter 29, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended by adding section 13-2931, to read:
13-2931. Hate crime; classification
A. It is unlawful for a person to commit an act out of malice toward another person because of the other person's race, color, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity or disability or because of the person's perception of the other person's race, color, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity or disability.
B. A person who violates this section is guilty of a class ___ felony.
