Overview
Removes the requirement that a county school superintendent hold a basic or standard teaching certificate.
History
The position of county school superintendent is established in the Arizona Constitution (Ariz. Const. art. 11, sec. 2). Statute requires a person to hold a basic or standard teaching certificate to be eligible for election as county school superintendent.

The office receives and spends local, state and federal monies to provide programs and services to specified entities, such as school districts, charter schools and libraries (A.R.S. § 15-301). The powers and duties of a county school superintendent include: 1) appointing school district governing board members to fill vacancies; 2) maintaining teacher and administrator certification records; and 3) apportioning monies to schools (A.R.S. §§ 15-302, 15-303).
