HB 2740: board of dispensing opticians; repeal

Sponsor: Representative Hendrix, LD 14

Committee on Regulatory Affairs

Overview

Repeals the State Board of Dispensing Opticians (Board).

History

The Board regulates the profession of opticianry, consists of 2 public member and 5 professional members that are licensed as dispensing opticians each of whom is appointed by the Governor and serves five-year terms. Responsibilities of the Board include: 1) issuing licenses to qualified optician and optical establishments; 2) administering examinations; and 3) investigating and adjudicating complaints against licensees (A.R.S. §§ 32-1672, 32-1673).

The 2020 Auditor General Performance Review concluded that the Board generally met its statutory objective and purpose, but noted that the Board needs to ensure the submission of proper documentation for license applications, provide written notice to applicants of application deficiencies and review the necessity of its fees (OAG Audit).

Laws 2022, Chapter 36 continued the board for eight years and the Board is set to terminate on July 1, 2030 (A.R.S. § 41-3030.06).
