SB 1175: appropriation; DPS; stand-by pay

Overview

Appropriates $3,000,000 from the state General Fund to the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) for stand-by pay to peace officers.

History

DPS creates and manages services that are used by local law enforcement agencies for the: 1) prevention of crime; 2) apprehension of violators; 3) training of law enforcement; 4) promotion of public safety; and 5) operation of the Statewide Emergency Medical Service (A.R.S. § 41-1711).

Peace officers are sheriffs of counties, constables, marshals and policemen of cities and towns, commissioned DPS personnel and personnel who are employed by the State Department of Corrections and the Department of Juvenile Corrections (A.R.S. § 1-215).

Standby pay is pay provided to employees who are required to be available for immediate callout and response to their work duties (DPS FY 2024 Budget Request).
