ARIZONA STATE SENATE
Fifty-Sixth Legislature, Second Regular Session
livestock compensation; appropriation
Purpose
Appropriates $250,000 in FY 2025 from the state General Fund (state GF) to the Livestock Compensation Fund (Fund).
Background
The Fund consists of federal monies, legislative appropriations from the state GF and private grants and private donations received for the purpose of compensating landowners, lessees and livestock operators for the following purposes: 1) wolf depredation on livestock; 2) participating in a pay-for-presence program implemented by the Livestock Loss Board (Board); and 3) implementing avoidance measures to prevent wolf depredation on livestock.
The Board administers the Fund and Fund monies are continuously appropriated. The Board may accept and spend federal monies, public and private grants, gifts, contributions and devises to assist in the operations of the Fund. Monies accepted in this manner do not revert to the state GF at the end of the fiscal year, and must be used to supplement, rather than supplant, monies otherwise appropriated to the Arizona Game and Fish Department. Fund monies are exempt from lapsing (A.R.S. § 17-493).
S.B. 1147 appropriates $250,000 in FY 2025 from the state GF to the Fund.
