Purpose

Requires each state agency or an authorized agent of a state agency to accept cash and money orders as payment for any amount due.

Background

Current statute allows a state agency or authorized agent of a state agency to accept credit cards pursuant to an agreement maintained by the State Treasurer to pay any amount due to the agency or the state. A state agency or an authorized agent of a state agency must deduct any applicable discount and processing fee associated with the transaction amount before depositing the net amount in the appropriate state fund (A.R.S. § 35-142).

The Joint Legislative Budget Committee fiscal note indicates that S.B. 1365 will have a fiscal impact on state agencies but the exact impact or funding source cannot be determined in advance (JLBC Fiscal Note).

Provisions

1.   Requires a state agency or an authorized agent of a state agency to accept cash and money orders to pay any amount due to the agency or the state.

2.   Makes technical changes.

3.   Becomes effective on the general effective date.
