group B weight; kindergarten; appropriation
Purpose
Establishes a group B weight of 1.352 for kindergarten programs and appropriates $_____ from the state General Fund (state GF) in FY 2025 to the Arizona Department of Education (ADE) for Basic State Aid to fund the additional group B weight.
Background
The school finance formula provides funding weights based on student enrollment and characteristics to determine a school district's or charter school's weighted student count for the purposes of calculating the Base Support Level. Group A weights are applied based on a school district's or charter school's average daily membership. Group B weights are applied using specific student characteristics and needs, including for developmental disabilities, English language learners and kindergarten programs and grades one through three.
Additional group B weights for kindergarten programs include a group B weight of 0.060 for K-3 and a group B weight of 0.040 for K-3 reading (A.R.S. § 15-943).
SB 1488 appropriates $______ from the state GF in FY 2025 to ADE.
Provisions
