An Act

providing for a cost study of the price of managing federal lands.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1. Federal lands; cost study; delayed repeal

A. The auditor general shall conduct and complete a cost study of the annual price to manage all federal land in this state that is not under the control of the United States department of defense or the United States bureau of reclamation. The auditor general shall assume for the purpose of the study that all federal land, except land under the control of the United States department of defense or the United States bureau of reclamation, is given to this state at no cost to this state.

B. For the purposes of this section, the following agencies shall cooperate with and provide all necessary information to the auditor general:

1. The Arizona game and fish department.

2. The Arizona state parks board.

3. The department of administration.

4. The department of law.

5. The department of environmental quality.

6. The department of water resources.

7. The state forester.

8. The state land department.

9. Any other agency or political subdivision the auditor general deems to have relevant information regarding the cost study.

C. The auditor general shall submit the cost study to the governor, the president of the senate and the speaker of the house of representatives and provide a copy of this cost study to the secretary of state within one year after the effective date of this act.

D. This section is repealed from and after December 31, 2025.
