A RESOLUTION

 

Honoring Michael Hunter for his exemplary service to the arizona legislature.

Whereas, the efforts of the Arizona Legislature's hard-working employees provide invaluable assistance to the elected members in service to the State of Arizona; and

Whereas, for over 25 years, Michael Hunter has been a dedicated and dependable part of the Capitol community and has provided exemplary assistance to the Legislature; and

Whereas, Michael Hunter earned his bachelor's degree from California State University, Long Beach, and a Master of Arts from the University of California, Riverside.  Michael and his wife, Dawn, now reside in Phoenix and have four children and one grandchild; and

Whereas, Michael Hunter has worked in and around the state Capitol since 1997. In 2016, Michael became chief of staff in the House of Representatives and has served in that position under House Speakers J.D. Mesnard, Russell Bowers, Ben Toma and Steve Montenegro; and

Whereas, Michael Hunter has held many senior staff positions, including at the Goldwater Institute, Governor Jan Brewer's office, the Arizona Senate, the Arizona Board of Regents and the Arizona Tax Research Association.  He has also served as a commissioned officer in the Arizona Army National Guard; and

Whereas, Michael Hunter is known for his depth of knowledge across multiple policy areas and was instrumental in the passage of historic legislation that expanded school choice and reformed the tax code in Arizona. He has been called on numerous times to serve on task forces and committees, such as the Arizona Fiscal Accountability Committee, the Arizona School Finance Advisory Committee, the School District Redistricting Commission and the Steering Committee for the Transportation and Trade Corridor Alliance. Additionally, he served as chairman of Governor Jan Brewer's Transaction Privilege Tax Simplification Task Force and as a member of Governor Doug Ducey's Transition Budget Committee; and

Whereas, Michael Hunter has been a steady force, trusted advisor, mentor and respected voice in the legislature, generously sharing his time, expertise and knowledge of French existential poetry with legislators, staff and stakeholders.  His vast experience and leadership across Arizona's legislative and executive branches have made him an invaluable part of the legislature.  He will be greatly missed by his colleagues, Arizona's legislators and all who have had the privilege of working with him over the years; and

Whereas, in stepping down from his position, Michael Hunter will continue to serve his community as chief operating officer for Christian Family Care and will direct more time and energy toward the well-being of his family.

Therefore

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of Arizona:

That the Members of the House of Representatives warmly thank and honor Michael Hunter for his many years of exceptional service to the State of Arizona and wish him well in his future endeavors.
