Whereas, the efforts of the Arizona Legislature's dedicated employees provide invaluable assistance to the elected members in service to the State of Arizona; and
Whereas, for over 35 years, Joan Romano has epitomized the selfless dependability of legislative staff by providing exemplary assistance to the Legislature; and
Whereas, Joan Romano was born in New Rochelle, New York, as the younger sister to four brothers. In 1979, Joan embarked on a journey to Arizona at the age of 21. She began working as a switchboard operator at the Phoenix Hyatt Regency shortly after arriving in Arizona. Afterward, she accepted a position at the Arizona Department of Economic Security in the early 1980s. Joan continued her state service in 1982, working as a switchboard operator for the Arizona Department of Administration, which was housed in what is the current Joint Legislative Budget Committee building on Adams Street; and
Whereas, Joan Romano began her career as a legislative staff member working in the House of Representatives as a supply clerk in 1989. Verna Watson was her supervisor until 1992, when Verna retired. Joan was then promoted to supply supervisor. As supervisor, Joan has overseen the production needs of the House of Representatives through bill and amendment printing and distribution, production of the House journals, ordering stationery, business cards and notepads and fulfilling every other request that she has been asked to complete. Joan is especially proud of the partnership with Arizona Correctional Industries, which has produced furniture for the House, including the desktops on each member's floor desks; and
Whereas, Joan Romano has distinguished herself as a conscientious and hardworking individual and her work ethic and loyalty are unsurpassed. She has consistently demonstrated the highest character and competence, and she has mastered her knowledge of duplicating machines and the other equipment necessary to keep the Legislature running. Joan Romano has earned the well-deserved respect and admiration of all who have had the privilege of working with her over the years. In retirement, Joan is looking forward to painting, attending art classes and spending time with her children and grandchildren and her loving husband of 42 years, Mike Romano.
Therefore
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of Arizona:
That the Members of the House of Representatives warmly thank and honor Joan Romano for 35 years of exceptional service and wish her well on her retirement.
