SB 1306: appropriation; crime victim notification fund

Sponsor: Senator Angius, LD 30

Committee on Judiciary

Overview

Appropriates $2,594,840 from the state General Fund (GF) in FY 2026 to the Law Enforcement Crime Victim Notification Fund (Fund).

History

The Fund is administered by the Arizona Criminal Justice Commission (ACJC) and must be used to pay for law enforcement agencies that choose to use an automated crime victim notification system that meets certain requirements, such as automatically notifying a crime victim of investigation updates and interfacing with a law enforcement agency's record.

Laws 2023, Chapter 154 moved the administration of the Fund from the State Treasurer to ACJC and made the Fund continuously appropriated.

ACJC is required to use Fund monies to expand ACJC's automated crime victim notification system and fund software that enables the ACJC to deploy the system to a user base consisting of law enforcement agencies (A.R.S. § 41-2414).

The FY 2024 Budget appropriated $10,000,000 to the Fund and directed ACJC to use up to $400,000 in FY 2024 to evaluate, certify and pay for any costs associated with the Fund.
