SB 1319: election officer certification training; yearly

Sponsor: Senator Dunn, LD 25

Committee on Government

Overview

Prescribes issue dates for election officer certificates in odd and even numbered years and designates December 31 of the year after a general election as the uniform expiration date.

History

All individuals performing official election duties in Arizona, with the exception of elected officials, clerical staff, counting center personnel, precinct election board members and city and town election officials, are required to be certified election officers. The Secretary of State is responsible for organizing training programs for election officer certification, which must include technical, legal and administrative aspects of election procedures in Arizona. Participants in these training sessions must successfully pass an examination. The Secretary of State issues election officer certificates prior to January 1 of each general election year, and these certificates remain valid through December 31 of the year preceding the next general election (A.R.S. § 16-407).
