Overview
Appropriates $500,000 and five FTEs from the state General Fund (state GF) in FY 2026 to the Secretary of State (SOS) to support the Arizona America250 Commission (Commission).
History
Laws 2022, Chapter 49 established the 11-member Commission to plan, develop, encourage and coordinate the commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States which takes place on July 4, 2026. Some of the Commission's duties include:
1) planning, developing and implementing an overall program to build public awareness of and foster public participation in celebrating and commemorating the 250th anniversary of the independence and founding of the United States;
2) coordinating with federal, state and local agencies and private organization on projects and programs to welcome and encourage national and international tourists;
3) drawing attention to the achievements, honors, innovation and significance of the people of this state since before the founding of this state to the present day;
4) recommending ways for this state to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States through state and local legacy projects for counties and municipalities; and
5) emphasizing the service and sacrifices of veterans who have secured n preserved American independence and freedom.
The Commission is required to submit a report to the Legislature and Governor on its activities on or before December 31 of each year. The Commission is repealed on September 30, 2027.
Provisions
1. Appropriates $500,000 and five FTEs from the state GF in FY 2026 to the SOS to support the Commission. (Sec. 1)
