Purpose
Appropriates $359,700 and 4 FTEs from the state General Fund (state GF) in FY 2026 to the Arizona Historical Society to operate the Pioneer Museum in Flagstaff.
Background
The Pioneer Museum located in Flagstaff, Arizona, was built in 1908 as the Coconino County Hospital for the Indigent. The museum contains a gift shop, and offers special event rentals, tours and educational trips of its premises and artifacts (AHS).
The Arizona Historical Society acquires, preserves, maintains and publicly exhibits archival and museum objects relating to the history of the state. The Arizona Historical Society has five museums across the state one in Yuma, Flagstaff, Tucson, Phoenix and Tempe (JLBC).
S.B. 1017 appropriates $359,700 and 4 FTEs from the state GF in FY 2026 to AHS.
Provisions
1. Appropriates $359,700 and 4 FTEs from the state GF in FY 2026 to the Arizona Historical Society to operate the Pioneer Museum in Flagstaff.
2. Declares the Legislature's intent that the appropriation be considered ongoing funding in future years.
3. Becomes effective on the general effective date.
