appropriation; highway project; Patagonia; use
Purpose
Allows the Town of Patagonia to use the FY 2024 appropriation of $1,500,000 to reconstruct McKeown Avenue between Third Avenue West and State Route (SR) 82.
Background
The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is responsible for the design and construction of state public transportation systems and the maintenance and operation of state highways in Arizona (A.R.S. § 28-332). ADOT may contract and do all things necessary to secure the full benefits available to Arizona for transportation purposes under federal law. ADOT may cooperate with: 1) federal, state and local government agencies; 2) Indian tribes; 3) private and public organizations; and 4) private individuals. ADOT may exchange federal monies with local governments in order to receive local monies and may include additional federal monies in the exchange to offset the matching costs required of local governments (A.R.S. § 28-334).
SR 82 opened in 1927 and is currently 65 miles long, stretching from Nogales to the junction of SR 80, north of Tombstone (ADOT).
Laws 2023, Chapter 135 appropriated $1,500,000 from the state General Fund in FY 2024 to ADOT for distribution to the Town of Patagonia to be used for the reconstruction of McKeown Avenue, between Fourth Avenue West and SR 82.
There is no anticipated fiscal impact to the state General Fund associated with this legislation.
