SUBJECT:      Strike everything amendment to S.B. 1264, relating to appropriation; regional medical center; Yuma


 


Purpose

Appropriates $7,000,000 from the state General Fund (state GF) in FY 2026 to the University of Arizona (U of A) to construct a regional medical center in the City of Yuma.

Background

The U of A currently has two accredited medical schools, the Colleges of Medicine in Phoenix and Tucson, and two university hospitals, Banner University Medical Center South, and University Medical Center Tucson. The U of A operates two additional out-patient primary clinical teaching facilities both located in Tucson. The medical programs at the U of A educate 500 medical students, 130 resident physicians and 80 fellow physicians. The U of A operates 15 centers and institutes across the state which serve multiple roles in advancing health care education, training, research and patient care (U of A and U of A).

S.B. 1264 appropriates $7,000,000 from the state GF in FY 2026 to the U of A.

Provisions

1.   Appropriates $7,000,000 from the state GF in FY 2026 to the U of A to construct a regional medical center in the City of Yuma.

2.   Declares the Legislature's intent that the appropriation be considered ongoing funding for the maintenance and operation of the regional medical center in future years.

3.   Becomes effective on the general effective date.
