ARIZONA STATE SENATE

police vehicles; inspection; requirements
Purpose
Requires an authorized emergency vehicle operated as a police vehicle in a patrol capacity to undergo an annual inspection and have a maximum manufacture date of 10 years or a maximum odometer reading of 115,000 miles.
Background
An authorized emergency vehicle is: 1) a fire department vehicle; 2) a police vehicle; 3) an ambulance or emergency vehicle of a municipal department or public service corporation that is designated or authorized by the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) or a local authority; or 4) any other ambulance, fire truck or rescue vehicle that is authorized by ADOT in its sole discretion and meets liability insurance requirements prescribed by ADOT (A.R.S. ยง 28-101).
There is no anticipated fiscal impact to the state General Fund associated with this legislation.
Provisions
1. Requires a vehicle, to qualify as an authorized emergency vehicle operated as a police vehicle in a patrol capacity by a law enforcement agency, to be inspected annually and at the time of inspection have:
a) a manufacture date of 10 years or less from the inspection date; or
b) 115,000 miles or less on the odometer.
2. Becomes effective on the general effective date.
