An Act

 

declaring legislative intent that monies appropriated for tribal college remedial education by Laws 2023, chapter 133, section 20 be considered ongoing in future years; appropriating monies.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1. Arizona community colleges; appropriations; remedial education; intent

The legislature intends that the appropriations made by Laws 2023, chapter 133, section 20 for the Tohono O'odham community college remedial education and San Carlos Apache college remedial education line items be considered ongoing funding in future years.

Sec. 2. Appropriation; Navajo technical university; Diné college; remedial education; reports; intent

A. The sum of $4,000,000 is appropriated from the state general fund in fiscal year 2025-2026 to the department of administration to distribute as follows:

1. $2,000,000 to the Navajo technical university for remedial education.

2. $2,000,000 to the Diné college for remedial education.

B. On or before October 15, 2026, the Navajo technical university board of regents shall submit to the governor, the speaker of the house of representatives, the president of the senate, the secretary of state and the joint legislative budget committee a report that details the course completion rate for students who received remedial education during the 2025-2026 academic year.

C. On or before October 15, 2026, the Diné college board of regents shall submit to the governor, the speaker of the house of representatives, the president of the senate, the secretary of state and the joint legislative budget committee a report that details the course completion rate for students who received remedial education during the 2025-2026 academic year.

D. The legislature intends that the appropriation made in subsection A of this section be considered ongoing funding in future years.
